ABSTRACT In semi-arid regions, where seasonal drought or irregular rainfall distribution are common occurrences, agricultural management techniques or strategies, such as the use of bone meal and/or hydrogel, can mitigate adverse conditions and ensure crop production. This study aimed to evaluate the efects of bone meal doses (0, 250, 500, 750 and 1,000 g pit−1), in association or not with hydrogel (0 and 5 g pit−1, respectively), on the leaf nutrient content of the dwarf cashew cultivar BRS 226. The leaf nutrient contents were evaluated during two growing seasons. For being a good source of macronutrients, the bone meal increased the levels of N, P, Ca, K and Mg in the dwarf cashew leaves. The leaf contents of the micronutrients Zn, Fe and Mn decreased with increasing bone meal doses. The nutrient accumulation in the leaves of the dwarf cashew planted in pits with bone meal and hydrogel has the following order: N > K > Ca > Mg > P > Mn > Fe > Zn > Cu. The application of bone meal at levels close to 600 g pit−1, mainly with the use of hydrogel, is a viable fertilizer alternative for dwarf cashew.

RESUMO Em regiões semiáridas, onde a seca sazonal ou a distribuição irregular de chuvas são ocorrências comuns, técnicas ou estratégias de manejo agrícola, como o uso de farinha de osso e/ou hidrogel, podem mitigar condições adversas e garantir a produção agrícola. Objetivou- se avaliar os efeitos de doses de farinha de osso (0, 250, 500, 750 e 1,000 g cova−1), em associação ou não com hidrogel (0 e 5 g cova−1, respectivamente), sobre o teor de nutrientes foliares da cultivar de cajueiro-anão BRS 226. Os teores de nutrientes nas folhas foram avaliados durante duas safras. Por ser boa fonte de macronutrientes, a farinha de osso aumentou os níveis de N, P, Ca, K e Mg nas folhas do cajueiro anão. Os teores foliares dos micronutrientes Zn, Fe e Mn diminuíram com o aumento das doses de farinha de osso. O acúmulo de nutrientes nas folhas do cajueiro anão plantado em covas com farinha de osso e hidrogel tem a seguinte ordem: N > K > Ca > Mg > P > Mn > Fe > Zn > Cu. A aplicação de farinha de osso em níveis próximos a 600 g cova−1, principalmente com o uso de hidrogel, é uma alternativa viável de fertilizante para cajueiro-anão.

RESUMO A melancia apresenta grande relevância econômica, no entanto, fatores edafoclimáticos e manejo inadequado vem favorecendo a salinização da água utilizada para irrigação, sendo este um fator limitante para o crescimento e produção da cultura. Contudo, considera-se que a utilização de reguladores de crescimento pertencentes ao grupo das citocininas e auxinas, pode contribuir para o desenvolvimento e produtividade das lavouras, mesmo em condições adversas como a salinidade. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar a influência de proporções de citocinina e auxina no crescimento e na qualidade de melancia irrigada com água salina. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições e fatorial 5 x 2, sendo cinco proporções de reguladores de crescimento (0/100; 25/75; 50/50; 75/25 e 100/0%) correspondentes às concentrações 1,0 e 10,0 mg L−1 de forchlorfenuron CPPU / ácido indolacético (IAA), e dois níveis de salinidade, um composto da água sem adição de sal (0,3 dS m−1) e outro com condutividade elétrica de 2,0 dS m −1. As proporções de citocinina e auxina influenciaram no crescimento e qualidade de melancia submetida à salinidade na água de irrigação. A proporção 25/75% (CPPU/IAA) favoreceu menores decréscimos na área foliar e na massa seca total em condição salina de 2,0 dS m−1. Para massa fresca e seca do fruto, a proporção 75/25% (CPPU/IAA) favoreceu menores reduções. A firmeza do fruto e os sólidos solúveis foram favorecidos pelas proporções 25/75 e 50/50% (CPPU/IAA) em EC de 2.0 dS m−1. A acidez só foi influenciada pela proporção de 50/50% (CPPU/IAA) entre os níveis de condutividade elétrica.

ABSTRACT Watermelon has great economic relevance, but edaphoclimatic factors and inadequate management have favored the salinization of the water used for irrigation, which is a limiting factor for the growth and production of the crop. However, it is considered that the use of growth regulators belonging to the group of cytokinins and auxins may contribute to the development and yield of crops, even under adverse conditions such as salinity. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the influence of cytokinin and auxin proportions on the growth and quality of watermelon irrigated with saline water. The experimental design was completely randomized, with four replicates and 5 x 2 factorial, referring to five proportions of growth regulators (0/100; 25/75; 50/50; 75/25 and 100/0%) corresponding to concentrations of 1.0 and 10.0 mg L−1 of forchlorfenuron (CPPU)/ indoleacetic acid (IAA), and two salinity levels, one composed of water without adding salt (0.3 dS m-1) and the other with 2.0 dS m−1 electrical conductivity. The proportions of cytokinin and auxin influenced the growth and quality of watermelon subjected to salinity in irrigation water. The 25/75% (CPPU/IAA) proportion favored smaller decreases in leaf area and total dry mass under a saline condition of 2.0 dS m−1. For fresh and dry fruit mass, the 75/25% (CPPU/IAA) proportion favored smaller reductions. Fruit firmness and soluble solids were favored by the proportions 25/75 and 50/50% (CPPU/IAA) at EC of 2.0 dS m−1. Acidity was only influenced by the proportion of 50/50% (CPPU/IAA) between the electrical conductivity levels.

ABSTRACT. The present study aimed to evaluate the residual effects of the application of biofertilizer and mineral fertilizer on sward structure and morphological components of Panicum maximum cv. Massai. The experimental design comprised randomized blocks with six treatments consisting of increasing doses of swine biofertilizer (0, 10, 20, 30 and 40 Mg ha-1) and mineral fertilization (150 kg N ha-1, 33 kg P ha-1), with four replicates. The variables analyzed were pasture height, light interception, leaf area index, forage mass and morphological components. Plant height responded linearly and positively to biofertilizer levels in the three evaluations. The highest averages for light interception (51.63%) and leaf area index (1.64) were observed for the 240 days (40 Mg ha-1). Dry leaf mass was influenced by the increase in biofertilizer dose, with increments of 39.68%, 25.07% and 44.66% for the 240, 300 and 360 days, respectively, when compared to the control treatment. Mineral fertilization promoted lower mass of dead material and lower leaf area index but did not differ from biofertilizer for the other variables. The residual effect of swine biofertilizer was greater than that of mineral fertilization, with a minimum use of 20 Mg ha-1 a practical agronomic recommendation.

RESUMO O tamarindeiro possui problemas na germinação de sementes, necessitando de métodos para a superação da mesma. Objetivou-se avaliar substratos e métodos pré-germinativos na produção de mudas de tamarindeiro. O experimento foi conduzido em ambiente protegido, com delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 5 x 4, correspondente a cinco métodos pré-germinativos (escarificação mecânica com lixa e embebição em água por 24 h, corte do tegumento e embebição em água por 24 h, embebição em água por 24 h, semente embebida em água com Trichoderma harzianum por 24 h e semente embebida em água contendo T. longibrachiatum por 24 h) e quatro substratos [100 % de solo, solo + substrato comercial (3:2), solo + esterco bovino (3:2) e solo + esterco caprino (3:2)]. O uso de substratos formulados com solo + esterco bovino e solo + esterco caprino na produção de mudas de Tamarindus indica L. proporciona maior crescimento. Os métodos pré-germinativos de escarificação mecânica e a utilização de embebição da semente em ambos os Trichodermas influenciam positivamente no crescimento e qualidade das mudas.

ABSTRACT The tamarind tree has problems of seed germination, and methods to overcome it are necessary. This study aimed to evaluate substrates and pre-germination methods in the production of tamarind seedlings. The experiment was carried out in a protected environment, using a randomized block experimental design, in a 5 x 4 factorial scheme, corresponding to five pre-germination methods (mechanical scarification with sandpaper and imbibition in water for 24 h, tegument cut and soaking in water for 24 h, soaking in water for 24 h, seed soaked in water with Trichoderma harzianum for 24 h and seed soaked in water containing T. longibrachiatum for 24 h) and four substrates [100 % of soil, soil + commercial substrate (3:2), soil + bovine manure (3:2) and soil + goat manure (3:2)]. The use of substrates formulated with soil + bovine manure and soil + goat manure in the production of Tamarindus indica L. seedlings provides a higher growth. The pre-germination methods of mechanical scarification and the use of seed soaking in both Trichodermas positively influence the growth and quality of seedlings.

RESUMO O meloeiro é uma das hortaliças-fruto de maior relevância para o comércio exterior do Brasil, mas, em áreas semiáridas, a irregularidade de chuvas, o uso excessivo de fertilizantes e, principalmente, a escassez de água de boa qualidade contribuem para a salinização dos solos, tornando-se um fator limitante, com danificações ao aparato fotossintético e à produtividade. Objetivou-se avaliar o comportamento fisiológico de cultivares de meloeiro submetidas à salinidade do solo. Conduziu-se um experimento em casa-de-vegetação, utilizando-se delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 3 x 5, sendo o primeiro fator cultivares de meloeiro (Iracema, Goldex e Natal) e o segundo níveis salinos do solo (0,3 dS m-1; 1,3 dS m-1; 2,3 dS m-1; 3,3 dS m-1; e 4,3 dS m-1 de condutividade elétrica), com quatro repetições. Para a salinização do solo, foi obtido extrato de saturação com salinidade inicial de 0,3 dS m-1, preparando-se os demais níveis mediante a adição de NaCl ao solo. A fisiologia das plantas de meloeiro é afetada negativamente, com o aumento da salinidade no solo. As cultivares avaliadas não apresentam diferenças para tolerância, em resposta fisiológica ao estresse salino no solo.

ABSTRACT Melon is one of the most important vegetables for the Brazilian foreign trade. However, in semi-arid areas, the irregular rainfall, excessive use of fertilizers and, especially, poor quality water contribute to the soil salinization, becoming a limiting factor and damaging the photosynthetic apparatus, as well as affecting yield. This study aimed to evaluate the physiological behavior of melon cultivars submitted to soil salinity. For that, an experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, using a randomized block experimental design, in a 3 x 5 factorial scheme, with the first factor related to melon cultivars (Iracema, Goldex and Natal) and the second one related to soil salinity levels (0.3 dS m-1, 1.3 dS m-1, 2.3 dS m-1, 3.3 dS m-1 and 4.3 dS m-1 of electrical conductivity), with four replications. For soil salinization, a saturation extract with initial soil salinity of 0.3 dS m-1 was obtained, while the other levels were prepared by adding NaCl to the soil. The physiology of melon plants is negatively affected by the increased salinity in the soil. The evaluated cultivars do not show differences in tolerance for the physiological response to soil saline stress.
